Turtle Cove is one of those places you don't fully understand from the listings. On paper it's a townhome community with a pool and beach access. In practice, it's the kind of neighborhood where you'll walk by units at dinner time and see people grilling on the street or steaming a pot of seafood together. That's rarer than it sounds.
Where it sits
South side of Surf City, half a mile from downtown. Directly across from Kenneth D. Batts Family Park, which has one of the best sunset views on the island (see our Best Sunset Spots ranking). Bikeable to the Surf City Pier, restaurants, and shops.
What's actually here
Two- and three-bedroom townhomes, individually owned so each one feels different inside. Private community pool. Gated private beach access via key fob. Some units are oceanfront, some are second row. Community BBQ and grilling areas. Each unit has two parking spots underneath plus additional visitor spots.
Who it fits
Repeat Topsail visitors who want a real neighborhood feel instead of a resort. Families with 5-7 people (2-3 bedroom units are the sweet spot). Couples with older kids who can walk or bike to downtown Surf City. People who like the idea of striking up a conversation with a neighbor.
What visitors don't realize
The pool is smaller than at the big resort complexes, but it's clean and perfect to hop in on a hot day. Never too crowded. Make yourself a cocktail and walk over to Kenneth D. Batts Family Park to watch the sunset every evening. Once you start that routine, you won't want to leave.
