Serenity Point
The southernmost point of Topsail Island. Adjacent to a 150-acre permanent nature preserve, with one of the most peaceful stretches of beach and sound on the entire North Carolina coast.
Serenity Point is not a traditional HOA. It's the southernmost tip of Topsail Island, where the ocean, New Topsail Inlet, and Banks Channel all meet. In 2024, the Coastal Land Trust purchased the 150 acres of undeveloped land here for $8 million and turned it into permanent conservation, now called the South Topsail Preserve. What that means for visitors: this stretch of Topsail will never be developed. It's protected wildlife habitat with 1.6 miles of shoreline that stays wild.
Where it sits
The southern tip of Topsail Beach. Both the sound side and the ocean side wrap around into a horseshoe of undeveloped beach. The preserve itself is a walk-in, boat-in, and paddle-in area.
What's actually here
The preserve: over a mile of undeveloped beach, salt marsh, and shifting sand flats. It's a nesting habitat for sea turtles (see our History of Topsail Island guide for the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital story) and shorebirds like plovers. Adjacent to the preserve are private townhomes that are rentable with a shared neighborhood pool.
Who it fits
People whose ideal Topsail day involves a long shell walk, watching pelicans dive for fish, and cooking dinner at the townhouse instead of a restaurant. Repeat visitors who've done the pier-and-shopping side of Topsail and now want the quiet side. Families with older kids who won't get bored without immediate amenities.
What visitors don't realize
You walk out your door and can walk the horseshoe of the point (do not walk into the preserve itself, it's protected habitat). Best time for wildlife viewing is in the morning. Serenity Point townhouses share a community pool, so the amenity is built in even though there's no big resort feel.
